Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia are through to the semi final of the Abia State Football Association Cup after defeating hard fighting Enyimba Feeders by 1-0.
Ojonugwa Adejoh’s goal in the 7th minute of play secured the much needed victory for Abia Warriors.
The encounter which was played at the Ahudiyannem Stadium, Abiriba, saw both sides resort to kick -and- follow football due to the undulating nature of the pitch.
That notwithstanding, it was the Warriors who had better control of the ball in the first period, and it was no surprise when they took the lead after seven minutes of play.
Samson Obi was quick to get to a dangerous cross from Antoine Desouza, but his effort was parried by the Enyimba keeper, and Ojonugwa reacted the quickest to slam the ball into the net.
It was chance after chance afterwards, but the Warriors failed to make them count.
The second half saw Enyimba Feeders fighting hard to restore parity, forcing the Warriors to commit unnecessary fouls.
Despite wholesale substitutions from both sides, no further goals were recorded.
Up next for Abia Warriors is a semi final match against Miracle FC of Umunneochi on Friday, 29th March 2024.
