Abia State FA Cup: Abia Warriors zoom into last eight

Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia zoomed into the quarter final of the Abia State Football Association Cup, with a 3-2 win over minnows, Uchecharia, played at the Abayi Girls’ Secondary School field, Aba.

It was an encounter that made headlines for the wrong reasons as the pathetic sight of the playing turf left followers of the round leather wondering why Abia State FA organized the match in such a place.

Nonetheless, the Pride of Abia still overcame their Aba based opponents to qualify for the next round of the competition.

A brace from Sunday Megwo and a goal from Ojonugwa Adejoh gave the Warriors a deserved 3-0 first half lead.

Against all expectations, the non league side caused a stir, capitalizing on the laxity from the Warriors to score two goals from dead balls to reduce the deficit to one goal.

With tension and apprehension enveloping the entire arena, the Warriors held on to see off the game, and with an eye on their next NPFL encounter against Katsina United FC in Katsina on Sunday.

Abia Warriors will now play against Enyimba Feeders in yet to be determined venue by the State FA.
