President Federation Cup: Abia Warriors Pip Sporting Supreme 1-0 in Benin

A 59th minute goal from Sunday Megwo was enough for Abia Warriors to overcome the hard-fighting Sporting Supreme FC of Abuja, and progress to the round of 16 of the 2024 President Federation Cup played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City.

It was a tough match as the opponents played with so much aggression to keep the Warriors at bay and ensure the first half ended goalless.

Despite their spirited effort, it was the Warriors who had the final say as Sunday Megwo stepped up to be counted.

A swift interchange of passes from the Pride of Umuahia ended with Ojonugwa Adejoh sending a delightful pass into the opponents vital area for Sunday Megwo to strike with precision and score his 5th goal in the President Federation Cup.

Sporting Supreme, competing in the second tier of Nigerian football, came all out in the closing stages of the match in search of an equalizer, but Abia Warriors defence quartet of captain Augustine Njoku, Prince Okorie, Collins Nwoburuoke and Aliyu Mohammed refused to bulge.

With this victory, Abia Warriors will now wait for the draws by the organizers to ascertain their next opponents.
