Abia Warriors forfeited a 1-0 lead to lose 3-1 to Akwa United in the Match Day 17 of the Nigeria Premier Football League encounter decided at Eket Township Stadium.
The visitors took the lead in the 27th minute of play through Emmanuel Onu. A through pass from Daniel Ijeh to Samson Obi, who made a dashing run into Akwa United’s vital area and placed the pass to Emmanuel Onu to score from 6 yards.
Abia Warriors failed to hang on to the lead and Mubarak Said drew the home side level in the 40th minute after being left unmarked to shoot from the edge of Warriors’ box.
Two minutes later, the home side doubled the lead when David Philip danced into the box and shoot past Warriors’ goalkeeper Sharp Uzoigwe for the second goal.
The Promise Keepers commenced the second half in search of a consolidation goal, and luck smiled on them when substitute Gbadamosi Jimoh was adjudged to have fouled Mubarak Said in the 18 yard box for a penalty to the home side, and Hadi Mohammed scored from the spot to make it 3-1.
