The Umuahia Township Stadium, home ground of Abia Warriors Football Club has been readied for the second stanza of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League activities.
This comes after the turf was put in shape by Abia Warriors Management led by Coach John Obuh.
Recall that the Nigeria Premier Football League organisers had placed a ban on the stadium following the perceived poor state of the turf, and a promise to lift the ban once the state of the turf is improved on.
After serious work on the turf, it now wears a new look, much to the delight of a member of the board of Abia Warriors and retired FIFA badged referee Sir Charles Nwokocha, who shared his thoughts on the current state of the turf during an inspection tour of the Stadium.
“I am elated , elated in the sense that the few days I’ve been coming around (to observe ongoing work), I’m impressed with what is happening. It means that management of Abia Warriors Football Club led by Coach John Obuh is consistent and ready to spend whatever it will cost to make sure that we not only put this (turf) in shape but for us to return back.
“We don’t want to play outside because of the magnitude of challenges we are going to face, financially, economically and otherwise.
“So far at a glance, I will give it a pass mark because this work has long started; you people are doing finishing touches. I want to say by God’s grace, we should not even think of playing outside here because, from what I have seen and what I have seen outside, this field is up to the (required) standard.”
Abia Warriors Football Club will commence the second stanza of the Nigeria Premier Football League activities with a home game against Remo Stars Football Club.
