High flying Abia warriors side continued its excellent form in the current Nigeria professional football league campaign as they nailed its opponents,Katsina United to the sword in one of the Matchday 17 games played today at the Okigwe township stadium.
Looking foward to stretch its unbeaten run and improve its position on the log, Abia warriors Head coach, Imama Amapakabo filed out almost same team that were held to a draw on Matchday 16 against Adamawa united with the trio of Anthony Okemmiri, Mustapha Jibreel and Yakub Hammed returning back to the bench whilst Fatai Abdullahi who was left out against Adamawa was returned back to the starting eleven.
Katsina United gaffer Godwin Bazuaye made a major change to the starting eleven that prosecuted the game against Rangers international at the midweek.
The game which kicked off at exactly 4pm lived up to its billing, the visitors were the first to record a short on target, all thanks to Goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke who pulled an excellent save to ensure everything remained level as the time hit its first 15mins.
Tatically sound Abia warriors were patient enough by keeping shape as to absorb all that were thrown at them by the visitors in the first 20mins into the game,
The coach Imama Amapakabo tutored side grew into the game, found its rhythm and mounted lots of pressure on the opponents regardless all their resistance.
The much anticipated breakthrough came at the 33mins, it was Winger Samuel who produced the assist which led to breaking the deadlock. The lively winger outsmarted his opponents down the channels, produced a cut back and it was Centre foward, Obioma Chukwuemeka who rightly positioned himself to record a goal with an ease tap in.
Obioma Chukwuemeka goal thus opened the flood gate of goals as Paul Samson doubled his side lead from a set piece, an effort which ensured the Umuahia warlords has a comfortable lead as the both teams returned to the tunnel.
On return for the second stanza,Fatai Abdullahi forced the Katsina United side to a big save which resulted to a corner kick. Unrelenting Fatai Abdullahi finally got to record his name on the goal scorers sheet as he feasted on Obioma Chukwuemeka through pass on a counter attack to blast home from close range.
The opponents thus woke up from their slumbber and pulled one from the spot as Harrison Ibukun was adjourned to have handled the ball with his hands right inside the box, gangling striker, Ahmed stepped foward to fire home for his side.
Its an end to end game afterwards till the Referee sounded his whistle to bring the proceedings at the Okigwe township stadium to an end.
With the emphatic win, Abia warriors currently occupies the 8th position with a total of 24 points whilst Katsina are a spot away from the relegation waters with a total of 18points.
Next for Abia warriors will be against Nasarawa United who will face Rangers international later this afternoon while Katsina will travel back to host Kwara united who dissected Adamawa united today.
