Abia warriors will welcome FCIU on Sunday 6th June, 2021 in one of the matchday 25 of the 2020/2021 Nigeria professional football season and it would be the Eleventh (11) time the both South Eastern based outfit will be clashing since gaining promotion into the Nigeria topflight league.
Our top-flight rivalry with FCIU was renewed in January, as the explosive encounter ended in a stalemate.
Imama Amapakabo side recorded it’s three straight draw at the midweek against Jigawa Golden Stars in Kaduna while Uche Okagbuo side were held to a draw at home in a derby fixture against Rangers International in Nnewi.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the derby game…
HOW CAN I FOLLOW THE MATCH?
The game gets underway at 4pm on Sunday. You can also follow the action via our social media platforms, where you’ll be able to enjoy live, in-game data through our Match Centre. The handles will also be providing build-up, live radio commentary and post-match reaction, and will show of the highlights afterwards.
Bello Lukman and Christian Samuel- could once again be available for the warriors. The two strikers missed out in the midweek game against Jigawa Golden Stars, paving way for Ajibola Adeleke and Innocent Gabriel to make as return in the team. Daniel Wotlai is doubtful as of the time of the preview as he will be subjected to a late fitness test.
The Anambra warriors are intact as there are no injury worries leaving the Nnewi based outfit gaffer a plethora of choice
We rank amongst the League’s most in-form at the moment, having an unbeaten in our last three games in succession against Rivers United, Akwa United and Jigawa Golden Stars.
Meanwhile, FCIU hasn’t been in the best of form and trapped in the relegation zone. The Nnewi side will come into the game with plenty of confidence to salvage a point in the oriental game: they pulled a surprise in it’s past game against Enyimba international, holding the former league champions to a 2-2 draw at the Enyimba township stadium.
Abia Warriors v FCIU is one of the fiercest rivalries in the Nigerian topflight league, their last league visit to Umuahia township stadium came in January 2020, when Bello Lukman and Hammed Yakubu goals gave us all three points. Our top-flight record in LS11 is largely positive, with 4 wins from 11gaames.
ONES TO WATCH
FCIU have won plaudits from neutrals this season for their attacking, possession-based style of football, with the Anambra warriors enjoying the fourth-highest share of the ball in the division. Key to this is midfield metronome Onuoha U, who has established himself as a regular in the Coach Uche Okagbuo tutored side. Forward Adamu.S has also shone. Molokwu C is a buccaneering left-back who ranks highly in both the passing and tackling charts and has weighed in with some crucial goals and assists in recent months.
Uche Okagbuo is one of the most widely respected coaches in the modern game. Credited as an early adopter of many of the game’s key 21st-century developments, such as high pressing.
There are only six league fixtures this weekend.
