Abia Warriors played a goalless draw with Jigawa stars yesterday in one of the Matchday 24 of the 2020/2021 Nigeria professional football league played inside the main bowl of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

The technical team kept faith with the team that took on Akwa United at the midweek which ended in a stalemate.

Abia warriors waa welcomed onto the field with a round of applause and ovations as the Kaduna fans sighted the trio of Godwin Obaje, Kabiru Mohammed and Mustapha Jibreel who are proudly home grown talent. Only a few goal scoring opportunities were created by both teams as the match progressed.

Approaching the half-time break Obioma Chukwuemeka, Godwin Obaje and Anthony Okemmiri were persistent in charging towards the Jigawa stars defence in search of goal attempts at Godwin Paul who has had a busy day in the game.

After missing a couple of chances, Skipper Anthony Okemmiri made way for the Kaduna State home boy, Mustapha Jibreel, a substitution which nearly produced an instant result, no thanks to Goalkeeper, Godwin Paul, who remained solid to ensure the score remains level heading to the locker room as both teams unsuccessful to get the opening goal and lead the pack, it was 0-0 at half-time.

An early substitution in the second-half of the encounter was made with the duo Markson Ojobo and  Hammed Yakubu coming on to replace Daniel Wotlai and Adeleke Adekunle who seemed uncomfortable to go on with the battle in Kaduna. As the half went on, the game took a livelier turn and a more competitive encounter unfolded.

Mustapha Jibreel and Paul Samson put together a few promising attacks and came exceptionally close after more excellent combination between Obioma and Obaje who sent a blazing shot at Godwin Paul who made a save for the Jigawa stars team. Another Obioma long range shot seemed destined for goal but could only narrowly miss the upright.

Stone Onukwube nearly became an instant hero for the home side with his deflected effort late on, however as was the case the whole evening, Vincent Edafe was on hand to make the save and keep the Downs net unscathed.

Ugwuka, came on from the bench as the encounter went on in the hopes of helping to find the opener. The game ended in a goalless draw allowing The Umuahia warlords to remain unbeaten in three games.

How the team lined up: Edafe, Adeleke, Ibukun, Njoku, Wotlai, Fatai, Samson, Okemmiri (C), Obaje, Chukwuemeka, Kabiru.
